The Waitsburg Hardware & Mercantile provides a service to the community with the Black Dog Rescue Program. Abandoned dogs and cats are rescued, cared for to include vet care and ultimately placed in area homes. The program has been responsible for placement of approximately 250 animals over the past two years. The program is supported strictly by donations from the local community.
All animals are spayed/neutered and have their vaccinations before adoption. There is a $50 donation for adoption of a dog or cat. The rest of the costs are paid by donations from the community. We carefully consider each adopter to determine appropriate home settings for each animal. This includes a fenced yard when necessary, ages of children, and landlord approval if needed. Our goal is to find forever homes for each animal.
Ways to help:
- Volunteer to walk a dog
- Be a Foster home for dogs or cats waiting for permanent homes
- Make a donation to help defray the cost of Vet bills and food
- Buy Black Dog Rescue tea or coffee which donates profits to the pets
- Adopt a pet
